Video Training Series on Leadership 360

I have completed four videos on Leadership 360 degree assessments with training on how to use and administer the assessment that I offer at Assessments Here. The training is over 100 minutes of straight content and almost an hour of solid information in using any 360 leadership tool.

Module 1 is about using 360s within an organizational setting and is long and more theoretical. (27 minutes)

Module 2 gives a brief overview to Leadership and 360′s and what you can expect to find out there. (11 minutes)

Module 3 is the meat and potatoes.  Here I go over the key points of administering and debriefing a 360 when you use one in coaching. (24 minutes)

Module 4, I take you through a sample Leadership 360 Assessment and talk about what it “means” and how I might debrief it.  This is the “technical” part of the training and is only necessary if you choose to use my Assessments Here profile. (42 minutes)

Improve your brain power, mental health, learning and more (not simply IQ)

There are a number of sites where you can "test" your brain power but the best that I have come across is Lumosity. Here are ten things that they claim:

10 Things You Should Know About Lumosity.com

  1. Lumosity.com has been shown to improve memory and attention in clinical trials.
  2. 98% of Lumosity.com subscribers say they would recommend us to others.
  3. Over 10 million people have joined Lumosity.com.
  4. Lumosity.com features over 30 brain games and exercises.
  5. Lumosity.com's training program only takes 10 minutes a day.
  6. People from over 180 countries have subscribed to Lumosity.com.
  7. Lumosity.com is the exclusive provider of healthy games for The New York Times.
  8. Lumosity.com costs less than a cup of coffee a day.
  9. Lumosity.com partners with healthcare providers and media outlets.
  10. Lumosity.com can change your life.

Designed by neuroscientists and based on extensive research, Lumosity's training program promotes cognitive health by selectively challenging cognitive faculties. They use the Brain Performance Index (BPI) to measureeach performance in a given cognitive function.

Lumosity improves brain health and mental functioning. Their brain training program selectively addresses five main brain areas: memory, attention, processing speed, flexibility and problem-solving skills. By focusing on all five, our training exercises steer you toward your peak performance. No matter what your age or educational background, Lumosity can help you stay mentally fit and at the top of your game.

You can use BPI to track your performance, and compare your ability in one cognitive area to another.  Overall BPI is your average BPI across each of the five cognitive areas: attention, memory, speed, flexibility and problem solving. This number provides a concise measure of your overall brain performance. If you are weak in one area, it will bring down your overall score, so it’s a good idea to focus on the games where you scores are lowest.

While there are paid accounts, you can open a full functioning free one by going to their websiteI highly recommend giving it a go. These are fun free and provide one place for an overall perpective on yur brain performance.

ONe resource site that I like and have often mentioned in my blog is from the BBC Science: Human body and Mind.  One example of a memory test can be found here.  Check around there are lots more.

Perhaps slightly more functional is Gild. Gild provides you with unique tools to certify your skills, find great jobs, and advance your career all while competing and sharing with friends and peers.

These are just a few of many intersting sites.  Please share any others that you think are worth a visit.

Tips – Video Blog for Users of Assessments Reminder

Just a reminder to all of you that I have started part two in my series of posts on “Assessment Tips” in the format of a 1 or 2 minute video. They are open to everyone but listed on the community site: Assessments Here. I have specifically designed for trainers, consultants and coaches who use assessments in their business. If you are a member (it is free) you will be able to find them under the category “Tips” or by clicking HERE.  Otherwise you will have to scroll down the posts to find them.  You can also find them and any other videos of mine by subscribing to my YouTube Account:  Platinumrule

Below is the latest in the series. It was taped about 6 weeks ago in our backyard, just before moving from Geneva to Paris.  Aren't the roses beautiful?  I will miss this view.  Enjoy and if you have any of your own tips, comment below.  I may end up using it in an upcoming video.

Values Assessment Webinar

A couple of months ago, I conducted a webinar on an overview of values assessments based on the work of Edward Spranger and the work of Allport. There are seven dimensions of value that help explain the reasons that drive an individual to utilize their talents in the unique way they do. This Values Index will help clients understand their motivators and drivers and how to maximize performance by achieving better alignment and passion for what they do. The Online Values Assessment measures seven dimensions of motivation:

  • Aesthetic – a drive for balance, harmony and form.
  • Economic – a drive for economic or practical returns.
  • Individualistic – a drive to stand out as independent and unique.
  • Political – a drive to be in control or have influence.
  • Altruistic – a drive for humanitarian efforts; help others altruistically.
  • Regulatory – a drive to establish order, routine and structure.
  • Theoretical – a drive for knowledge, learning and understanding.

I compare this assessment with the PIA&V (from TTI) as well as Business Motivators (from Maximum Potential). All three measure similar aspects.
This is a great complimentary assessment to go along with any of the other ones we offer at Assess Yourself. Platinum Rule®, Social Styles and Disc are all behavioural style instruments. Here is the presentation and be sure to listen to the audio which takes you through the slides.

The audio appears in Explorer, Safari and most Firefox browsers. There does appear to be an issue for some on Firefox. If it doesn’t show up, try linking to the direct page: www.assessmentstoday.com/2010/08/values-assessments.html My apologies.

True Colors – Team Building Workshops

I have decided that it is time to get back into doing more True Color Workshops.  True Colours is a stand alone program or a very effective
kick off event for a team building retreat.  The Personality Dimensions (True Colors) workshop is
designed to help participants become more effective communicators and enhance
team building skills.

For the past few years, since moving to Europe, I have been promoting and using The Platinum Rule for my team building activities. I still love this tool but I have missed doing the True Colors.  The Personality Dimension assessment could be viewed as a "simplified" Myers Briggs Type Indicator.  It is so much easier to grasp and remember.  More importantly, it doesn't box or label people.  So for those who like Jung and MBTI – this is a fantastic team tool.

 Personality Dimensions (True Colors) Intro

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What it is?
PersDim
The Personality Dimensions workshop is a self-awareness program that builds on the foundations established by the work of David Keirsey, Linda Berens and Don Lowry. It helps people become more effective communicators and enhance team-building skills.
Through the use of four colours, Resourceful Orange, Organized Gold, Inspiring Green, and Authentic Blue, workshop participants become aware of four basic personality types. Each personality is unique and needs to be differently rewarded. This is often used successfully as a kick off event for a team building retreat.
How it works?
In the activity-based presentation, participants learn to appreciate their diversity and improve their self-esteem by being introduced to the Personality Dimensions theory and sorting various four colour-coded cards as well as completing a validated short word sort instrument.
Participants are then regrouped according to their ‘personality colour’ and, with the aid of colour coded props, present answers to specific questions. Presentations are analyzed and discussed for similarities and differences. The presentations also allow them to scrutinize the skills they need to strengthen to become even more effective team members.
Programme structure
A minimum of 2.5 hours deliver time is required to introduce the concepts and complete the activities. Ideal group size is 12 to 20.   Handouts are kept to a minimum but the Participant Package, with a 13-page booklet, is part of the materials required. (Cards must be returned along with the top page of the instrument.) The workshop is delivered in English but materials are provided in either French or English.
This workshop is highly interactive and energetic. I am Level One certified to deliver this material and has personally delivered this workshop to over 600 people.  Please feel free to contact
me directly if you need any other information or some references.
Cyndi Lauper's song and lyrics are wonderful and I sometimes use it to move between activities – enjoy.
Colour us THANKFUL!… we found you to be a dynamic,
knowledgeable and, certainly an entertaining leader. We talked about it for
days and we were all anxious to find out if our hunches about family members
were right.  Thank you so very much
for an informative, informal, fun evening. It allowed us to better understand the
people we work with and to appreciate how vital different colours are to a
properly functioning team."
Master of Applied Positive Psychology
I received this email this morning and thought I would post it verbatim here for you:
MAPP631_emailhead05
We are happy to announce that the Master of Applied Positive Psychology (MAPP) program at the University of Pennsylvania is now accepting applications for the 2009-2010 academic year.
We are looking for the next class to join the more than 150 students who have enrolled in this extraordinary program in the four years since its inception and who are currently applying positive psychology in education, medicine, law, business, psychotherapy, counseling, coaching, consulting, and elsewhere. Some of the younger graduates of our program have now gone on to Ph.D., J.D., or M.D. programs to further their training before engaging in the practice of positive psychology.
Because MAPP is offered on an executive education model, most of our students continue to work full time during the year and commute to Philadelphia–from across the United States and as far away as Mexico, the United Kingdom, Sudan, South Korea, and New Zealand!–for the on-site classes. While many students have already earned other Master's degrees or even Ph.D.'s, only a Bachelor's degree is required for admission.
If you hold at least a Bachelor's degree (or will complete one this spring), have an excellent academic record, and are interested in learning about positive psychology and its applications from leading researchers and practitioners in the field, we invite you to find out more about our program. If you think the program may be a good fit for you, we encourage you to submit an application before the deadline of March 1, 2009.
For more information about our program, please visit our website at www.pennpositivepsych.org.
In addition to general program information, the website contains a link to a recorded Virtual Information Session that features input from administrators, professors, students, and alumni of the MAPP program.
Please feel free to pass this message along to anyone else you know who might be interested in this program.
Whatever you choose to do in this New Year, we hope it will be one of authentic happiness for you and yours.
Sincerely,
Marty Seligman
New Training: Online learning of the Enneagram with Helen Palmer
As many of my readers know, I am a great fan of the Enneagram.  While I don’t use it much in the workplace, I do sometimes recommend it with coaching clients and I personally have been a student for about a dozen years.
No matter which Enneagram Instrument you choose to use – if you do – then in-depth training is essential.   I first studied under Hurly and Dobson (Donson).  There are many other reputable "teachers" out there and I would personally recommend both Riso-Hudson and Helen Palmer.  I received this announcement a few weeks ago from Helen:
It is my great
pleasure to announce that we now have a distance learning platform for teaching
the Enneagram in an academic setting over the internet.
The online course
is entitled “Using the Enneagram in
Psychological Assessment and Practice
”. This American Psychological Association approved e-course offers
insightful new material that is immediately applicable, whether your interest
is professional improvement, personal growth or spiritual development. I am
pleased to be team teaching this material with an articulate group of panelists
representing each of the nine types and Marlene Cresci Cohen, PhD.,  a practicing clinical psychologist, colleague, and dear
friend. Marlene’s type-specific analysis
brings fresh insights that validate and uphold the psychological integrity of
the Enneagram, while my contributions focus on the spiritual. The e-course is available at www.enneagram.com and through the
University’s main website. I have included a short audio message
here
that introduces the e-course.
The announcement of this online course
coincides with the launch of a new website, www.Enneagram.com.
Enneagram.com is focused on the online delivery of audio and video
resources for the study of the Enneagram. In addition, it offers a free email newsletter that will inform and
entertain you on topics related to the Enneagram.
